CSRT Program

ABOUT THE CSRT PROGRAM

Gain fundamental education or become certified as a concrete surface repair technician through ICRI’s online Concrete Surface Repair Technician Program (CSRT). Whether you are new to concrete repair or experienced, this program has something for you!

The Concrete Surface Repair Technician (CSRT) program was developed in response to industry demand and code language. ACI 562-19, “Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures,” outlines repair inspector qualifications for the inspection of concrete repairs and designates ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technicians as qualified inspectors.

The CSRT program is a competency-based program using current best practices for online training and evaluation and consists of two (2) course options:

  • Education Course, offering you fundamental education in concrete surface repair; and
  • Certification Course, offering you full certification as a concrete surface repair technician. Video submission included in course fee. (When available, on-location live performance exam for an additional fee.)

NOW AVAILABLE! Recertification Course, offering access to the CSRT Education Program (Mods 1-5) for course review prior to taking the 72-question recertification exam. Recertification is required on a 5-year basis, can be taken within 6 months of the original certification expiration date, but not longer than 9 months after the original certification expiration date.

The CSRT Education course provides fundamental knowledge and best practices in concrete surface repair. With this online program, you will gain essential information and training from your home or office. Participants will learn about inspection and tests, types of concrete deterioration, repair materials and methods, and the requirements for a quality concrete surface repair. The Education course requires completion of five (5) online training modules and graded exams, with each module incorporating education and training with questions.

Participants who successfully complete and pass all five (5) online training modules and exams, will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ICRI.

The Education Course is based on industry standards and guidelines, four (4) ASTM Standards (including all Annexes and Appendices), and ICRI Guideline No. 210.3R:

  • C31, Standard Practice for Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field;
  • C143, Standard Test Method for Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete;
  • C1583, Standard Test Method for Tensile Strength of Concrete Surfaces and the Bond Strength or Tensile Strength of Concrete Repair and Overlay Materials by Direct Tension (Pull-off Method);
  • C1611, Standard Test Method for Slump Flow of Self-Consolidating Concrete; and
  • ICRI Guideline No. 210.3R, Guide for Using In-Situ Tensile Pull-off Tests to Evaluate Bond of Concrete Surface Materials.

Training Modules:

  • Module 1: What is Reinforced Concrete? / Deterioration of Reinforced Concrete
  • Module 2: Quality Requirements
  • Module 3: Repair Methods and Materials
  • Module 4: Pre-placement Inspection
  • Module 5: Post-placement Inspection

This training is offered exclusively online through our ICRI Learning Center. You will need an internet connection and up-to-date internet browser to complete this training. 1.01 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Concrete-Repair Specialist Qualifications: Engage an experienced concrete repair firm that employs installers and foremen/supervisors who are trained to appropriately and carefully remove concrete, prepare surfaces, and apply repair materials outlined in this Section. Firm shall have completed work similar in material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project with a record of successful in-service performance.
    1. Field Supervision: Concrete repair specialist firm shall maintain experienced full-time foremen/supervisors on the Project site during times that concrete repair work is in progress. Concrete repair specialist firm shall have at least one certified concrete repair specialist supervising on site at all times. The Concrete Surface Repair Technician (CSRT) Certification Program administered by the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) will meet this requirement.

Have you been hesitant to participate in the CSRT Certification Course, or are you currently taking the course but have not completed it due to the video recording submission requirement for the performance exam?

If so, ICRI is pleased to offer a live performance exam option at various on-site locations for an additional fee. ICRI provides all the items necessary to conduct the performance exams on-site under the watchful eye of qualified judges.

The CSRT Certification Course includes two options for the performance exam:

  • video submission, or
  • live, on-location for an additional fee

The Certification Performance exam
 requires that you perform four (4) ASTM test methods (C31, C143, C1583 and C1611) that are included in the Education component of the training. Instead of shooting the video recording of yourself performing the tests and then submitting it to ICRI for grading, the live performance exam is offered on-site under the watchful eye of qualified judges who will not provide any level of coaching.

ICRI provides all the equipment, materials, and test samples needed for you to complete the performance exam. Passing the performance exam requires correctly demonstrating all four (4) of the ASTM test methods. Refer to the performance exam rubric criteria, guidance/example videos, etc. that you can access once you have purchased and launched the online Certification Course.

Participants taking the live performance exam must have completed and passed all online components of the CSRT Certification course, including the Education online training Modules 1-5 and the online knowledge exam, prior to arriving on-site.

Actual performance exam time is approximately one (1) hour per participant. ICRI will attempt to accommodate participant requests for time slots; however, time slots are not guaranteed. Final time slots will be assigned by ICRI prior to the class and participants will be notified.

Training Modules:

  • Module 1: What is Reinforced Concrete? / Deterioration of Reinforced Concrete
  • Module 2: Quality Requirements
  • Module 3: Repair Methods and Materials
  • Module 4: Pre-placement Inspection
  • Module 5: Post-placement Inspection
