Program Description

Unlike new construction, the Contract Documents for most concrete repair projects contain little detailed specification information. This can lead to misunderstandings between the contractor and design professional, resulting in higher costs, loss of profits and errors in the work. The new ACI 563-25 repair specifications are intended to address this issue by providing detailed and consistent specifications for common issues encountered in concrete repair projects. The new specifications include information on Crack Repair, Galvanic Anodes, Protective Membranes, Overlays, Precast Concrete Repair, Post-Tensioned Concrete Repair and Architectural Concrete Repair. These repair specifications will be described, with practical examples of how they are used in typical concrete repair projects.

Through attending this program, registrants will understand the following concepts and be able to apply them to their professional practice:

  1. Explain the purpose of the ACI 563 Repair Specifications from the perspective of the contractor and specifier
  2. Describe how the specifications would be used for a typical repair project
  3. Identify the key provisions included in the repair specifications that contractors and specifiers need to understand
  4. Identify additional project-specific information that must be considered by the specifier

and other structures. He founded the Structural Investigations Group at Martin/Martin, a team of over 40 engineers and technicians who specialize in the repair of existing buildings, bridges and other structures.

John is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute and the chairman of ACI Committee 563 (Repair Specifications), he is also a voting member of several other ACI Committees, including 562 (Repair Code), 546 (Repair), 364 (Rehabilitation), E706 (Concrete Repair Education), 93-11 (Statistical Techniques for Assessment of Existing Concrete Structures) and the TAC Repair and Rehabilitation Committee. He is past President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the International Concrete Repair Institute.
