What will I need before beginning either the Education or Certification course?
Four (4) ASTM Standards and ICRI Guideline No. 210.3R are provided to you as electronic downloads for both the Education and Certification courses. Additional documents and standards are recommended reading and listed in CSRT Resource and Reference Materials. You should consider obtaining these documents before you begin the training; however, they are not required to complete the courses.
What are the system requirements?
This training is offered exclusively online through our ICRI Learning Center. You will need an internet connection and up-to-date internet browser to complete this training. We strongly recommend a broadband connection as there are several training videos throughout the training modules. Firefox and Chrome are recommended as browsers.
How do I register?
To register for either the Education or Certification course, look for those courses under the Course Catalog in the ICRI Learning Center. Select the Buy Now option and complete payment. Once payment is completed, the course will show up under the My List tab in your profile.
What do the Education and Certification courses cost?
Fees are located on the Fees tab on the CSRT Program web site. ICRI member, nonmember, student pricing, and company volume fees are available. To register for the Education course, you will pay the fee listed for the Education course. To register for the Certification course, you only pay the fee listed for Certification (the Education component is included in the Certification fee).
What is the CSRT program like?
The five (5) online modules required for both Education and Certification courses each consist of instructions, training through text, video, and review questions. Each module takes 1-2 hours to complete with a graded exam following each module. Each graded exam must be completed in one sitting. The estimated time to complete and the passing grade required for each exam are indicated at the start of each module. You have two chances to pass each exam. You must complete both attempts at the same time. If you fail after two attempts, you will be required to purchase the re-examination and retake all 5 modules. We strongly recommend reading through all handouts before you begin the modules.
Certification includes two additional items: the online knowledge exam and the performance exam. The knowledge exam is a 65-question online exam to demonstrate comprehension and understanding of the subject matter. Questions are similar to those offered in the 5 online modules. The knowledge exam must be completed in one sitting and must be taken alone. You are allowed three hours to complete the exam and only one (1) attempt. If you fail the attempt, you will be required to purchase re-examination.
I'm a Certification participant. How do I access the Knowledge Exam after completing training Modules 1-5?
If you have completed training Modules 1-5 and succesfully passed the module exams, you can access the knowledge exam under the Knowledge Exam tab within the CSRT Certification Course in the Learning Center.
What are the requirements for the Certification performance exam?
Requirements for the performance exam are listed on the performance exam page once you purchase the course. There are two (2) options: Video record your own tests with the criteria provided and submit to ICRI for scoring in accordance with the guidelines provided or, if availalble, register to attend an in-person performance exam class to take your performance exam in front of a live judge. More details on upcoming live performance exams are under the Live Performance Exam tab on the CSRT Program web site.
The performance exam consists of the demonstration of the four (4) ASTM standard test methods. Example videos are provided within the course information, as well as a performance exam rubric with the exact criteria on which you will be tested. If you fail any of the 4 performance exam tests, you must take a performance re-exam for only the test(s) failed at an additional fee (same fee for 1-4 re-tests).
What equipment will I need for the Certification performance exam?
To conduct your performance exam, you have several options for equipment. You can provide your own equipment that conforms to the ASTM test method requirements. You can purchase the required equipment (ICRI provides links to some equipment manufacturers).
ICRI has also developed an equipment kit that includes many items you need, including a video camera to record your examination, if needed. A link to the equipment rental site is included in the course materials. The equipment rental period is two (2) weeks.
Are there any videos I can watch demonstrating the performance exam process?
Yes. After purchasing the Certification course, information will be available in the course materials, including step-by-step videos demonstrating the test methods.
If I fail an exam, can I retake it?
Education:
- If you fail any Education training module exam after two (2) attempts, you must purchase the re-examination and retake all five (5) modules.
Certification:
- If you fail any Education training module exam after two (2) attempts, you must purchase the re-examination and retake all five (5) modules.
- You get one (1) attempt to pass the knowledge exam. If you fail the exam, you must purchase the knowledge re-examination.
- Failure on one (1) or more of the four (4) required ASTM Standard tests on the Performance Exam requires retaking the specific failed test(s) only and requires the purchase of the performance re-exam.
- After one (1) year of failing any of the tests on the Performance Exam, the entire Certification Course must be retaken, including the Education component (Modules 1-5), the Knowledge exam, and the Performance Exams at the regular fee (re-examination fees do not apply after 1 year).
